Delegation visited University of Swat to discuss establishment of “Institute of Climate Change and Ecosystem Restoration

The delegation led by NCA Country Director, Mr. Stephen Kent and Ex Minister Mr. Qari Rooh Ullah held a productive meeting with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim, to discuss opportunities for collaboration in addressing climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.

The meeting was attended by the University’s deans, Registrar, and senior administrative officers. Discussions focused on the growing challenges posed by climate change and the role of higher education institutions in conducting research, developing innovative solutions, and building resilience against environmental risks.

During the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the University academic achievements, research initiatives, and future development plans. He highlighted the pressing environmental challenges facing the region and emphasized the need to establish an “Institute of Climate Change and Ecosystem Restoration” at the University of Swat. He noted that the proposed institute would serve as a hub for scientific research, policy development, and community engagement on climate-related issues.

Vice Chancellor further explained that the University requires modern research equipment and qualified human resources to effectively undertake advanced research on climate change, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Stephen Kent, Country Director of NCA appreciated the Vice Chancellor vision for academic excellence and his commitment to addressing climate change through research and innovation. He acknowledged the importance of strengthening academic institutions to respond to environmental challenges and assured the University of Swat of NCA support in exploring opportunities for collaboration and capacity building in the field of climate change and environmental research.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to develop meaningful partnerships that would benefit both the University and the wider community in addressing the impacts of climate change.
