Youth Development Centre (YDC)
About:
Since its inception in 2002, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC) is focused on developing human resources by helping universities/ Higher Education Institutions to establish a world-class center of excellence in various disciplines.
From 2020, to improve the quality of the undergraduate qualification, HEC has initiated reforms in Post-Secondary Education and developed a thorough policy incorporating requirement of Internships, Practical Learning Labs, Student Clubs, and Student Societies for university students. In this context, the universities are facilitating students for better Academic facilities, Internships, Practical Learning Labs, Student Clubs and Societies, and other related services. Thus, a central office was required to facilitate students under one roof to save time and resources in line with undergraduate policy 2020.
In this context, Youth Development Centers (YDCs) in the leading public sector universities would be established where services related to students will be offered in a single office having distinct wings dealing with Education, Employment & Engagement.
Vision:
To ensure provision of quality education, gainful employment and meaningful engagement to youth through integrated, dynamic and sustainable youth-centered initiatives.
Mission:
To invest in the development of youth with an aim to make them skilled, confident, resourceful & self-reliant ultimately enabling them to contribute positively in the progress & economic stability of Pakistan.
Objectives of the Youth Development Centre are:
- To facilitate/guide youth/students in career counselling
- The one-stop integrated national and international scholarships hub.
- Creating awareness among the students regarding Job hunting and much stronger links between employer and youth for job placement and internships
- To foster an entrepreneurial culture and open paths for entrepreneurship among the Youth
- To facilitated the implementation of undergraduate education policy
- To provide a single operational office for Student facilitation
- Creation of Sports activities, Student Clubs/Societies for complimenting sporting behavior and individuals’ future health.
- High-quality talent development to create a better talent pool by Training/Capacity Building
Outcomes:
- A centralised single operational office for student services, where all departmental and career related queries can be addressed.
- Providing academic guidance in the selection of Major Subjects/Courses.
- Providing students with internship and job placement opportunities, as well as establishing monitoring mechanisms
- Offering opportunities for national and international scholarships.
- Facilitation office for Practical Learning Labs, where students can develop their communication abilities.
- An operational platform for developing rules for various student clubs, associations and societies.
- An event management office to plan events for Green Clubs, Student clubs, Book Reading Clubs, and other clubs.
- As a publishing support office, to assist students in publishing University Magazines, articles in newspapers, and other publications.
- A hub for offering available places in different sports and organizing indoor and outdoor games round the year.
- Resolving student queries on time in a professional working environment.
