The Valley of Swat

The lush green forests, running streams, green meadows and historic Swat Valley lies between 34°-40′ to 35°N latitude and 72′ to 74°-6′ E longitude. The valley is an integral part of the strategic and significant region where three parts of  the Asian continent-South Asia, Central Asia and China, meet.

The river Swat is a clear water river starting from the Ushu range of mountains to the spread of the valley of Swat. It is one of the greenest valleys of the Northern Pakistan and is well connected to the rest of Pakistan. Swat is surrounded by Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir in the West, Gilgit-Baltistan in North Kohistan, Buner and Shangla in the East and south East. Due to its fertile land, lush green lofty mountain, natural beauty, emerald coloured water of the river, cyclonic rainfall, Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the The Yusafzai State of Swat called it “the Switzerland of the east. The people of the Swat are the most hospitable.

The weather in Swat remains pleasant. The winter weather remains coldest in upper region of swat. The summer season is the best for tourism. Tourists around the globe visit to Swat due to its beauty, magnificent mountain, running streams, river and meadows, and lush green mountains. Swat is also famous for its beautiful ornaments, decorative house holds articles, embroidery made by women, ladies shawls, wooden furniture, wood carving, handicrafts and honey. Mingora is the commercial hub of Swat. It is located 2 km from the capital city of Saidu Shairf. The city is famous for its shopping and has a number of mineral reserves as well as emerald reserves in hills situated northward of the town.

History of University of Swat

The University of Swat is a public-sector university. The main academic campuses as well as all the  administrative offices are located in Main Campus, Charbagh Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. On May 29, 2010, the establishment of the University of Swat was announced by the then Prime Minister of Pakistan during his visit to Swat valley.The university came into formal existence in July 2010 by the order of Honourable Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.  Its first Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan (Shaheed) was appointed on August 2010. The Higher Education Department handed over two buildings to the university located at Saidu Sharif, Swat. Land acquisition for the university’s own campus at Charbagh has been completed and construction on the project is in progress. In its first academic session 2010-11 the university launched 7 departments and later on the number of departments were increased from 7 to 27 and furthermore two new Campuses, namely Woman Campus and Shangla Campus established. Presently the university Main Campus resides at Charbagh, Swat.
