The 17th HEC Inter-University Chess Championship 2026 officially commenced today with a grand opening ceremony at the University of Swat.
Prof. Dr. Mohamad Qasim, Vice Chancellor of the University of Swat, inaugurated the championship and welcomed participants from across the country.
Around 22 university teams from different regions of Pakistan are participating in this four-day national event, organized by the Higher Education Commission in collaboration with the University of Swat. The championship aims to promote strategic thinking, sportsmanship, and inter-university engagement among students.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Qasim emphasized the role of sports in holistic student development.
“Chess is more than a game. It builds focus, discipline, and decision-making skills. We are proud to host talented young minds from 22 universities and provide them a platform to compete and learn from each other,” he said.
