University of Swat has signed a landmark agreement with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) for the provision of state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure

The University of Swat has signed a landmark agreement with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) for the provision of state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure at the University. This initiative represents a major step toward strengthening the University’s digital backbone and enabling a modern, technology-driven academic and administrative environment. Under this agreement, NTC will establish a comprehensive and integrated ICT infrastructure across the University campus. The scope of the project includes the deployment of a robust Local Area Network (LAN), fibre-optic-based high-speed networking, IP telephony systems, wireless connectivity, and traditional telephony services. These components are designed to ensure seamless communication, efficient data transfer, and reliable connectivity for academic, research, and administrative activities. The project is currently in its final stages of implementation and is expected to be completed in the near future. Upon completion, high-speed internet services will be fully operational across all Phase-I buildings of the University, significantly enhancing access to digital learning platforms, research databases, and online collaboration tools. It is noteworthy that, in alignment with the vision of the Vice Chancellor to declare 2023 as the “Digital Year,” the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) has initiated a project worth PKR 88 million from its own Annual Development Programme (ADP) and internal resources. This project involves the installation of a 16-kilometer optical fibre cable network from Mingora to Charbagh, connecting the University of Swat with a high-capacity communication backbone. Additionally, a GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) solution is being deployed to ensure efficient, scalable, and high-speed internet distribution across the campus. Furthermore, the technical survey for the project has been successfully completed, and NTC has issued a formal work order to the designated vendor to commence the implementation phase. The project encompasses end-to-end infrastructure development, including backbone connectivity, last-mile access, and modern networking equipment to support a resilient and future-ready ICT ecosystem. This collaboration highlights the University of Swat’s commitment to digital transformation, innovation, and excellence in higher education. The initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in improving academic delivery, administrative efficiency, and overall campus connectivity, thereby benefiting students, faculty, and the broader academic community.
