Press Release: The University of Swat observed Kashmir Black Day (October 27)
Upon the directives of the Hon. Vice Chancellor, University of Swat (Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher, SAARC Gold Medalist), the Society for the Promotion of Social Sciences, Social Welfare and Awareness, and Youth Development Centre (YDC), University of Swat organized a seminar on the eve of observing Kashmir Black Day (October 27) to demonstrate solidarity with the Kashmiri people and to draw attention to the atrocities of being committed by the Indian occupation forces in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The heads of different academic and administrative units including Prof. Dr. Najeeb Ur Rahman (Dean, Faculty of Chemical Sciences, UoS), Mr. Fida Hussain (Assistant Professor, DCST & Provost, UoS), Dr. Fazal Akbar (Director, Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiology, UoS), Dr. Jamal Ud Din (Head, Department of Media and Communication Studies, UoS), faculty, and students were in attendance.
The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Shah Lillah (MPhil scholar, Zoology, UoS). Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Najeeb Ur Rahman shared the message of Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher, Vice Chancellor of the University of Swat, that on this day, the University of Swat joins conscience-driven voices worldwide and the people of Kashmir in demanding a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir conflict that honors the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He added that education and awareness can pave the way for peace and understanding.
Dr. Sarfaraz Khan (Assistant Professor & Head of the Centre for Caucasian, Asian, Chinese and Pakistan Studies, UoS) was the resource person of the seminar. Dr. Sarfaraz outlined the region’s history, current situation, and the importance of settling the Kashmir dispute. Organizer of the Seminar Dr. Imran (Assistant Professor of Sociology/Head of the Department, & Focal Person, Youth Development Centre, University of Swat) thanked the Hon. Vice Chancellor and other participants for commemorating the Kashmir Black Day.
