The Inaugural Day of the Four-Day Training Boot Camp-I on “Integrating Generative AI in Education” Kicks Off at the University of Swat
The University of Swat, in collaboration with the Virtual University of Pakistan (VUoP), Lahore, inaugurated the first day of the highly anticipated four-day training Boot Camp-I on “Integrating Generative AI in Education.” The event is being held on August 19, 2024, at the Committee Room, Main Campus, University of Swat, and aims to provide educators and academic professionals with the skills necessary to harness the power of Generative AI in education. Faculty members from VUoP and the University of Swat (80 participants) participated in the sessions.
Dr. Imran (Assistant Professor of Sociology, Head, DS&GS & Focal Person, Boot Camp-1 welcomed the participants and guests of the Boot Camp. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Chief Guest (Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher, SAARC Gold Medalist, Vice Chancellor of the University of Swat), who delivered an inspiring keynote address. In his speech, he highlighted the transformative potential of AI in reshaping educational practices and preparing students for a technology-driven future. He stressed the importance of integrating AI tools into the curriculum to enhance teaching methodologies and optimize learning outcomes. Besides, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Javed, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology & Focal Person from VUoP fort Boot Camp-1 also addressed the participants and thanked the Vice Chancellor, UoS for facilitation and mutual collaboration.
The first day of the boot camp featured a series of enlightening sessions, beginning with an introduction to Generative AI, its foundational concepts, and its relevance in the educational sector. Experts from the Virtual University of Pakistan (VUoP), Lahore, led the sessions, providing valuable insights into the latest AI technologies and their applications in education. Participants were introduced to the basics of Generative AI, including its role in personalized learning, automated content generation, and adaptive assessments. The experts included Dr. Fakhar Ul Inam, Director of Quality Enhancement, Dr. Akhtar Ali, Associate Professor, Dr. Sana Zahoor, Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Assistant Professor, Dr. Aysha Asghar, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Dr. Aisha Saddiqa, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Irfan Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, VUoP. In addition, Mr. Hamdullah Younas (Director, Directorate of IT, UoS) facilitated the sessions.
The day concluded with a lively Q&A session, where participants posed questions to the expert panel, seeking guidance on challenges and opportunities related to AI integration in education. The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the participants reflected the growing interest in AI as a transformative tool for education.
