On the special directives of Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher, Vice Chancellor, University of Swat, a one-day seminar on “Interfaith Harmony and Social Cohesion” was held at the University of Swat in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (KPCVE). The event aimed to foster peace, tolerance, and unity among diverse communities through constructive academic dialogue.
The seminar was organized by the Society for promotion islamic teachings and traditions University of Swat.
The distinguished speakers, including Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Islamic Studies; Prof. Dr. Lutfullah Saqib, Chairman, Department of Law and Shariah; and Dr. Sheraz Ali, faculty member, Department of Sociology. A large number of faculty members and students attended the event.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad emphasized that Islam strongly advocates peace, respect, and coexistence among people of different faiths. He noted that true social harmony can only be achieved when individuals respect religious diversity and uphold moral values.
Prof. Dr. Lutfullah Saqib underscored the importance of legal and ethical frameworks in strengthening interfaith dialogue and cooperation, stating that societal peace depends on justice and mutual understanding.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sheraz Ali highlighted the sociological significance of interfaith harmony, explaining that tolerance and inclusivity form the foundation of a progressive and cohesive society.
Participants appreciated the joint efforts of the Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and KPCVE for organizing such awareness-oriented academic sessions across universities. They observed that these initiatives encourage youth to adopt positive social values and reject extremist tendencies, contributing to a peaceful and united Pakistan.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Zia-ud-Din, who also read out the special message of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher, acknowledging the efforts of the organizers and emphasizing the University’s continued commitment to promoting peace, tolerance, and social cohesion through education and dialogue.
