University of Swat “Marka-e-Haq & Independence Day Cricket and Chess Championship, 2025” Concludes Successfully
The closing ceremony of University of Swat “Marka-e-Haq & Independence Day Cricket and Chess Championship, 2025 was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Hassan Sher University of Swat, alongside Registrar Mr. Fayyaz Ahmad Khan, Director Admissions Mr. Fida Hussain Khan, HOD’s and other staff members, Omer Khan, General Secretary, Chess Federation of Pakistan, Mohammad Salman Khan, Vice President, KP Chess Association, Kashif Salim, General Secretary, KP Chess Association, and Muhammad Waqar, Rating and Development Officer, Chess Federation of Pakistan. At the the end of closing ceremony chief guest Prof Dr, Hassan Sher, VC university of Swat distributed trophies and certificates among the participants.
The University of Swat’s Marka-e-Haq & Independence Day Cricket and Chess Championship concluded today with great enthusiasm, showcasing the spirit of intellectual competition and national pride. Organized by the Directorate of Sports, University of Swat, in collaboration with the Chess Federation of Pakistan, KP Chess Association, District Youth Office Swat, The Gift of Chess, and District Swat Chess Association, the event witnessed an impressive participation of 12 cricket teams from different departments University and 100 players chess from across Pakistan.
The championship of chess, recognized and FIDE Rated by the International Chess Federation, provided free FIDE IDs to all new participants, giving them a platform to compete at the national and international levels.
In the final standings of Cricket, Law Department secured the win over Department of Geology and in chess competition Omer Khan from Peshawar emerged as the champion, while Farman Ullah Khan from Batkhela secured the runner-up position. These events reflected a high standard of competition and strategic mastery among the participants.
In his speech, Vice Chancellor Dr. Hassan Sher emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for mental growth, stating:
“Sports game of strategy, intellect, and critical thinking. Every student should have access to this game to enhance cognitive skills and personal development.”
The Championship’s success was made possible through the tireless efforts of Mohammad Salman Khan, Vice President KP Chess Association, and Dr. Amjad, Director of Sports, University of Swat, who coordinated logistics, training, and event management to ensure a seamless experience for all participants.
The University of Swat remains committed to promoting intellectual sports, fostering a culture of critical thinking, and integrating national celebrations with initiatives that cultivate both mind and spirit.

Centre for Biotechnology and microbiology, University of Swat, organised a scientific exhibition on the Theme “Building Innovative Pakistan 1st Annual Research and creativity showcase”. The students from different schools, colleges and university participated in this event on 14th August 78th Independence Day of Pakistan. The Awards distribution ceremony was held in three categories, Model Presentation, Poster Presentation, and Ideas Presentation.The purpose of the exhibition was to sensitize our youth for creativity and innovations, and to develop a better and prosperous Pakistan.
The Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher and Director CBM Dr.Fazal Akbar acknowledged all the participants and presenter for their active participation and innovative ideas that will play a pivotal role in the development of the country.
