About
University of Swat was established as a provincially chartered University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan to provide access to higher education opportunities to the people of Swat Valley and beyond. It was established in the year 2010 with the aim to impart quality and relevant education. This mission was launched with enthusiasm and patience with very meagre resources in-hand. The university of Swat comprises of 7 faculties, 25 departments and more than 75-degree programs offered together at Main Campus, Women Campus and Shangla Campus of the University of Swat. Other than this, the university is offering PhD programs in 13 departments and 19 MS/M.Phil Programs at its Main Campus at Charbagh. The University has more than 9000 students and more than 100 PhD qualified faculty members having done their PhD from reputed institutions inland and abroad.
Keeping in view the research potentials and in the wake of promoting research endeavours and synchronizing it with academic norms and industrial demands, the University of Swat has established Office of Research, Innovation and commercialization (ORIC) on the directives of Higher Education Commission and initiative of the honourable Vice Chancellor, University of Swat. The University of Swat ORIC office was recognized by the Higher Education Commission in 2022 in the highest category. The ORIC website is updated till 31st December, 2025 on information related MOUs signed, Projects submitted-Approved, Call for grants circulated, Newsletter, Travel grants, Capacity Building Trainings, research Publications list, Research directions and other information of importance is made available online. Presently, the ORIC office is headed by Director ORIC, Dr. Muhammad Tariq and supported by Manager Research Mr. Asif Saud Jan, Liaison Manager Dr. Israr and Mr. Iftikhar as office Assistant. At University of Swat the Academic and administrative staff is striving hard in order to provide quality education to the students and to uplift the university to an exemplary stage especially in regards to innovation and commercialization related endeavours. The University faculty members/researchers are working in diverse areas related to natural, basic, applied and social sciences. The faculty members from various departments have 56 research projects and won more than 10 travel grants with 2 travel grants approved in 2025 recently. Out of these more than two dozen projects have already been completed. The University of Swat through its ORIC office has hitherto inked 45 MoUs with leading national and international organizations. Out of these 15 MoUs were inked during 2024 alone. ORIC is aimed at promoting quality research with innovation, creativity, skills development, commercialization and intellectual property that will eventually benefit the country’s economy in general and university in particular.
The ORIC University of Swat has two sections namely, a) Research Management, b) Innovation and Commercialization. The mandate of ORIC is to strengthen the research activities and provide services for matters pertaining to research and development through invention, innovation, commercialization of products, patents, collaboration and arranging seminars, conferences and workshops. Moreover, this ORIC Office will strive to be the best in research excellence and its market utility by fully utilizing the available resources.
