Welcome to the Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiology, University of Swat. Since the inception of University, Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiology has offered an interdisciplinary platform for innovation and knowledge creation in the ambit of all its fields. Owing to the importance of integrated areas in life sciences, we are focused on providing interconnected academic and research environment to our students and faculty. Microbiological and biotechnological research endeavors are vital to all life forms and investigating their unexplored relations with humans, plants and animals carry tremendous research importance in all times to come. Here, we are keen to smoothly provide theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of medical microbiology, microbial biotechnology, bioprocessing, molecular biology, tissue culture and nanobiotechnology. We have also collaborative links with eminent institutes in the country and abroad for research of mutual interests and essence. We are proud of our graduates who are capable of competing and securing good positions in highly reputed national and international organizations.

Introduction
The 21st century is considered as an era of biotechnology and applied microbiology. During recent years, amazing achievements have been made in the field of science, in general and life sciences in particular. The effect of these developments on improving the quality of life is apparent. Realizing the vast importance in the field of microbiology, University of Swat established the Department of Microbiology in 2011. Later on, the department of Microbiology was extended into Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiology. The Center for Biotechnology and Microbiology aims at research oriented BS, MSc, M. Phil. and PhD degrees in Biotechnology, Microbiology and Genetics. The students who fulfill the admission criteria as per HEC guidelines are admitted in these programs.
Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiology is a vibrant and ambitious department, which has gained a good repute in the University and the society due to its strong commitment to excellence in both research and teaching. The Centre is nucleus for learning that provides a dynamic environment for scientific research and training. All departments in the Centre have highly qualified faculty and most of them are with doctorate and post-doctorate experience from well reputed institutes. This team of dedicated and ambitious young scientists explore the frontiers of biological sciences for advancement of knowledge with creativity and innovative endeavors.
Vision
The Centre is intended to be a largest cluster for providing international standard in teaching and research in the field of applied biosciences in Pakistan with a view to advance knowledge in the areas of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Genetics to produce experts and skilled manpower for solving current problems of the society and contribute in the socio-economic development of the country.
Mission
The Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiology has clear mandate to help support the development of country through applications of modern knowledge of Biotechnology and Microbiology. The research programs in the centre are mainly aimed for improving agriculture, health, environment and industry. The Centre offers several services and marketable products to meet the day-to-day challenges and futuristic needs. The educational programs leading to MPhil and PhD degrees have also been designed for the development of human resources in modern sciences and self-reliance with focus on innovation and commercialization.
