One Day Seminar on the Concept of Human Rights in Islam and the West


On the eve of Human Rights Day (December 10), a one day seminar was organized by the Department of Social and Gender Studies (GS&GS), Sangota Campus, University of Swat on the theme “The Concept of Human Rights in Islam and the West”.

Dr. LutfullahSaqib, Assistant Professor, Department of Law and Sharia, Sangota Campus, UoS was the resource person of the seminar. He highlighted the role of Islam and the West in the provision of human rights. Islam is the best religion and for the first time in human history Islam explained the concept of human rights which covers all aspects of human life. The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) during his last address clearly portrayed a comprehensive model of human rights and obligations, he added. Dr. Lutfullahfurther said that; the concept of human rights also exists in the West; however, Western world is still working on the improvement of different aspects of human rights and still there is a long way to go with regard to human rights provision by the West.

In the beginning of the seminar, Mr. Imran, Chief Organizer of the Seminar and In-charge, DS&GS, Sangota Campus, UoSwelcomed all the participants and shed light on the importance of the celebration of human rights day.

At the end, Mr. Imran thanked the faculty and students along with the resource person for participation in the seminar and celebrating human rights day.
