Seminar on “Prevention and Control of Mosquito-Borne Diseases (Dengue and Malaria)”


An awareness walk and seminarwas organized at University of Swat by Society for Disaster Management & Health Affairs on April 25th, 2018. April 25th is an international observance commemorated annually as World Malaria dayand recognizes global efforts to control malaria. Road walk was started at 9:30AM from Sector-D to PTCL campus. The main aim of the walk was to sensitize the students and general public on the prevention and control of dengue and malaria and letting them know the dangers and the way out.

Registrar, Director Student Societies, HoDs, Faculty members and students from all departments participated enthusiastically in the walk. Road walk was followed by an awareness seminar and a poster exhibition competition. Seminar was inaugurated with a welcome speech by the Vice Chancellor, University of Swat. He welcomed the guest speakers from Health department and briefed the audienceon the importance of World Malaria Day observance. He appreciated the enthusiasm of the organizer and cabinet members of SDM&HA for conducting such type of activities. 

Dr. Samarat Khan [Casualty Incharge, Government Tehsil Hospital, Khwaza Khela] delivered a detailed lecture on the prevention and control of dengue and malaria. Mr. Syed Mahiud Din, Malaria Inspector, briefed the audience on the facts and figures of Malaria cases in district Swat.Side by side, posters were presented on the theme by students from different departments. In the last, shields and certificates were distributed among the event organizers and winners in the poster competition. Ms. Khush Bakht, student of BS Zoology, Semester VIII stood first, Mr. Junaid Ibrahim, and Tufail Ahmad, BS-Journalism, Semester-6thstood second and Ms. Husna, student of MSc Zoology stood third in the poster exhibition competition.
